stewart smith, stewart patterns

This life-sized bronze portrait was commissioned by the town of Perth, Ontario through Artcast, Inc, Canada's premier art foundry. I worked with the tireless Tony Hendricks, owner of the main grocery store in Perth. Along with Eric Knoespel of Artcast, we played for many weeks, trying to find a way to make all 1000kg of Big Ben to 'fly'.
The town of Perth website on Big Ben has lots of construction detail. Equestrian artist Jean Abernethy and her sister, Ruth Abernethy, one of Canada's leading portrait sculptors came onto the project after it had been roughed in, and made the piece a world-class effort.

It seemed like the entire equestrian world showed up for the unveiling, including the RCMP musical ride.
